NEW YORK [14 June 2019] 100 Women in Finance (‘100WF’) today announced that Ms. Rupal Bhansali, Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager, International and Global Equities at Ariel Investments, LLC, will receive its 2019 North America Industry Leadership Award at the 18th Annual 100WF New York Gala on November 13, 2019.
Ms. Rupal Bhansali

100WF’s 2019 North America Industry Leadership Award Honoree
Based in New York, Ms. Bhansali began her buy-side career more than 20 years ago at Soros Fund Management, where she was a long-short equity investor. This formative experience continues to influence her work as a value investor. Today, in her role as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager, Ms. Bhansali manages $7 billion in international and global equity portfolios for both institutional and retail fund investors. Her penchant for non-consensus thinking and courage to go against the crowd have played a pivotal role in being recognized by the financial media for her contrarian and unconventional investment views, and her success in the financial markets.
Earlier this year, Ms. Bhansali became a member of the Barron’s Investment Roundtable, which showcases “10 of Wall Street’s smartest investors.” She is also the author of the forthcoming book Non-Consensus Investing: Being Right When Everyone Else is Wrong (October 2019).
Ms. Bhansali earned a Bachelor degree as well as a Master of Commerce degree in finance from the University of Mumbai. She later earned an MBA in finance from the University of Rochester (USA), where she was a Rotary Foundation Scholar.
Commenting on Ms. Bhansali’s recognition with this award, Mellody Hobson, President, Ariel Investments said, “Rupal is an inspiration and someone who has never let personal or professional obstacles stand in her path. She is a role model for women in our industry, where delivering superior performance results is the ultimate measure of success. Ariel benefits greatly from Rupal’s leadership, competitive spirit, indefatigable work ethic, and courage to go against the grain.”
The theme of the 100WF’s New York Gala, and all 100WF’s global fundraisers in 2019, is Investing in the Next Generation. With this focus, the Gala’s proceeds will fund 100WF’s work in North America to establish purposeful pathways and inspiration for pre-career young women to enter the finance industry, and to support them in early stage careers with relevant programming and a peer network.
Amanda Pullinger, CEO of 100WF, noted, “Rupal’s career and life story offers a resonant and compelling message for young women. Specifically, she demonstrates that a career in investing can be one of intellectual curiosity and independence, with deep rewards and satisfaction. This year, when 100WF’s philanthropic efforts are focused on Investing in the Next Generation, it would be hard to imagine a more apt role model for women who aspire to our industry’s highest levels.”

100WF’s New York Gala will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street, and attended by approximately 600 senior members of New York’s finance community. Gala tables are now available for purchase, as are individual Gala seats and sponsorship opportunities. Inquiries should be directed to the New York Gala Committee.
The Gala will be co-chaired by Alexandra Burban and Anjuli Patel. They commented, “We are thrilled by Rupal’s selection for this year’s award and by the opportunity to serve as the Gala co-chairs in support of the Investing in Next Generation Initiative. The Gala is a once-per-year special event that ties our mission together – we celebrate the achievements and leadership of an exemplary female industry leader and at the same time inspire the next generation to follow her lead.”
Donations to 100WF’s Investing in the Next Generation Initiative in North America are very welcome.
