Anthea Gardner
Managing Partner, Cartesian Capital
Anthea Gardner founded Cartesian Capital, a Johannesburg based asset management business, www.cartesian.co.za in 2014. Cartesian manages local equity and fixed income portfolios as well as offshore ETF portfolios for investors’ regulated and discretionary investments.
As well as being the Managing Partner and Director of Cartesian, she is also a shareholder and Director of Inyosi Empowerment Group, a Cape Town based ESD (Enterprise and Supplier Development) business.
She started her finance career at HSBC, Johannesburg, whilst completing her MBA at Wits Business School; with her research thesis in ‘Option Pricing Models and their relevance in the South African market’.
Her experience includes having worked at large global banks such as HSBC, Rand Merchant Bank, Morgan Stanley and the African Development Bank.
She is the Chairperson of the Early Care Foundation which focusses on ECD in the townships in SA www.earlycarefoundation.org; and committee member of the SA chapter of 100WF.
Her book, ‘Make Your Money Work for You’, was an instant bestseller, and was written to help the ‘man in the street’ gain insight into the world of finance and stock markets, and to encourage a culture of saving and investing.
In her spare time, she is a keen sportsperson and a regular market commentator in the South African media.
