100 Women in Finance First Year Anniversary in Nigeria with Ambassador Nimi Akinkugbe

100 Women in Finance celebrated the 1st anniversary of the formal launch of its Nigeria location at a dinner in Lagos on Friday, July 12, 2024, sponsored by First Bank of Nigeria, Stanbic IBTC, Africa Finance Corporation and Aruwa Capital Management.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Taiwo Okwor, Africa Finance Corporation and Co-Chair of the 100WF Nigeria location. She emphasized the need for 100WF’s programming in Nigeria despite some progress in female inclusion in financial services in Nigeria, evidenced by the caliber and profile of female leaders in Nigeria’s financial services industry in the audience.

Following an introduction by Saratu Kitchener, Africa Finance Corporation and 100WF Nigeria Committee Vice- Chair, the keynote address by Amb. Nimi Akinkugbe was an inspirational charge themed “Empower the Leader Within”. As a former banker, seasoned entrepreneur, personal finance expert and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece (2021-2023), Amb. Akinkugbe brought colour, depth and perspective by sharing insights and tips from her career and experience on the importance of developing self-awareness, managing personal finances, building a support system, being resilient and prioritizing self-care.

The keynote was followed by an engaging fireside chat with Amb. Akinkugbe moderated by 100WF Nigeria Co-Chair, Yemi Okojie of FBN Holdings PLC where they extended the discussion and a networking dinner where 100WF members and guests had the opportunity to connect with their peers and colleagues in the finance industry. It was a rare opportunity for professionals at different career stages to connect and share their perspectives. The event was well received by attendees from diverse sectors of the Nigerian financial services industry.

In her closing remarks, Timoni Akindolie, Africa Finance Corporation and 100WF Nigeria Committee member encouraged attendees to join 100WF and be part of its local and global community and help progress 100WF’s mission and Vision 30/40, aiming for women to occupy 30% of senior investment roles and executive committee positions by 2040.  Two sets of The City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly, generously donated, by Amb. Akinkugbe were presented to the winners of the ice breaker.

A highlight of the anniversary celebration was the announcement of upcoming programming geared towards early and mid-career female finance professionals, aligned with 100WF’s mission to catalyze career growth and development.

The first anniversary of 100WF in Nigeria was a resounding success, showcasing the organization’s commitment to advancing women in finance. As the Nigerian location looks ahead, it aims to expand its programs, increase membership, and continue to advocate for female inclusion in Nigerian financial services.
