In our Mentor and Mentee Features series, we highlight a mentor and mentee partnership from our LaunchMe program and learn why thy took part and what they gained from the process. This time we speak to Gabrielle Myers (Mentee) and Sally Peedom (Mentor) from our LaunchMe 2026 cohort.
Gabrielle Myers (Mentee)
Associate at Mourant Ozannes (Cayman) LLP
I am currently an Associate at Mourant in the Cayman Islands, working in the Funds and Corporate team with a focus on banking and finance. My core experience is in fund finance, primarily capital call facilities, as well as asset finance, particularly aircraft and vessel transactions. Over the past four years, I have also assisted with the establishment of both private and mutual funds and supported a range of corporate matters. More recently, I have also had the opportunity to assist on regulatory matters—an emerging area of interest that I am keen to continue developing.
Why did you join LaunchMe?
Initially, I was unsure whether to participate in the LaunchMe programme as a mentor or a mentee. Having previously taken on a mentoring role through a 100 Women in Finance programme, I felt that this was an ideal opportunity to experience the programme from the mentee perspective. I was keen to focus on my own professional development, gain practical guidance on progressing my legal career, and learn from someone with established experience navigating the legal industry in the Cayman Islands and building a strong and credible professional reputation.
What has been your favourite part of the mentorship program?
One aspect of the programme that stood out to me was the natural evolution of the mentor mentee relationship. My mentor, Sally Peedom, and I began our first meeting in a relatively formal manner, as we were previously unknown to one another—despite later discovering that we were neighbors. By our second meeting, the dynamic had shifted significantly and felt much more like a relaxed coffee catch up with a friend, albeit a very insightful and experienced friend. What was intended to be a thirty minute introductory discussion covering our backgrounds and my goals for the programme quickly developed into an hour and a half of conversation about our work, experiences, and life more generally. For me, the opportunity to build a genuine professional relationship—one that has also developed into a meaningful friendship and will hopefully continue beyond the formal structure of the programme has been the most rewarding aspect of the mentorship experience.
What’s one goal where you’ve seen the most impact and what have you learned from your mentor?
In a word, confidence. My confidence in the workplace has grown noticeably, particularly in how I approach my day to day responsibilities. While this was not one of my original goals for the programme, I realised through working toward one of my key objectives, learning how to appropriately discuss career progression with management, that confidence was essential to achieving it. That process required confidence at several stages: first, to raise the topic openly with my mentor; then to prepare a clear and thoughtful document outlining my contributions to date, along with initiatives that could add value to my firm; and finally, to present and discuss that plan with management. This level of confidence was new to me, but it proved invaluable, not only in achieving that specific goal, but also in encouraging me to approach my daily responsibilities with greater assurance.
Sally Peedom (Mentor)
Counsel, Conyers
I am a Cayman Attorney specialising in International Private Client and Trusts. I enjoy working with global clients, advising on both structuring and trust litigation matters. What also drives me is assisting and supporting more junior attorneys, to help them advance in their careers.
What drew you to mentor in LaunchMe and what’s been rewarding about the experience?
I have found the LaunchMe experience very rewarding, both professionally and personally. I was fortunate enough to be perfectly matched with a very motivated, professional and grateful mentee who was a pleasure to work with. We equally enjoyed and benefitted from the experience.
How has the relationship inspired or influenced you and what is one thing you’ve learned from your mentee.
My mentee Gabrielle was quite open and transparent about both her career and life in general. It made me appreciate that these traits made us bond much faster than I anticipated. She also helped me slow down and be present.
Any tips or encouragement for those entering the industry?
No matter how many years you may have worked in finance or law, surrounding yourself with the right people will always bring out your strengths.
