Dr Dambisa Moyo makes major donation to 100 Women in Finance’s CEO Circle
Funding will be used to create greater opportunities in the finance industry for African women
100 Women in Finance (100WF) today announces a major gift to its CEO Circle from global economist and author, Dr. Dambisa Moyo. The funds will be used to empower and create pathways for more women across Africa to become future leaders in global finance.
Dr. Moyo’s generous gift will enable 100WF to:
- Explore the feasibility of establishing new 100WF locations in Africa to empower women in the industry through peer engagement and education initiatives. The six African countries being reviewed for future potential locations include Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa and Zambia.
- Create a series of online programming featuring women in finance roles across Africa.
- Grant 100WF discounted memberships for women in finance roles in Africa.
- Enable role model connectivity between women in finance roles and female students across Africa.
- Grant free memberships and industry access points to female students at universities across Africa.
Commenting on the donation, Dr. Dambisa Moyo said: “I am truly excited about the opportunity to support the work of 100 Women in Finance and their efforts to make sure every background and culture is empowered to lead and to serve in the investment industry.
“Finance has been a defining element of my life working for Goldman Sachs, the World Bank and serving on the board of Barclays. I have always been especially interested in the power of financial literacy and in the financial industry as an engine for growth and global development.
“I see this initiative by 100 Women in Finance as an opportunity to bring more African women into the conversation about global finance and capital allocation. Those left out of the conversation are at a real disadvantage.”
In response, Amanda Pullinger, 100WF CEO, said: “It is a privilege to receive this gift from Dr. Dambisa Moyo, not only because the contribution will make a difference for the next generation of African women, but because Dambisa is herself such a fantastic role model for women in the industry globally. We are honored to receive our first CEO Circle gift from such a remarkable woman.”
