LaunchMe Spotlight: Gabrielle Myers + Sally Peedom

When Gabrielle Myers joined the LaunchMe mentorship program through 100 Women in Finance, she was already building a strong legal career in the Cayman Islands. As an Associate at Mourant working across funds, banking, finance, and corporate transactions, she had developed extensive experience supporting capital call facilities, asset finance transactions, and fund structures.

Still, Gabrielle saw LaunchMe as an opportunity to invest in her own professional growth.

“Initially, I was unsure whether to participate in the programme as a mentor or a mentee,” she shared. “I felt this was an ideal opportunity to experience the programme from the mentee perspective and focus on my own professional development.”

What began as a structured mentorship quickly became something much more meaningful.

Her mentor, Sally Peedom, brought not only professional insight but also relatability and trust to the relationship. In an unexpected twist, the two discovered shortly after being paired that they lived on the same street in neighboring complexes. The coincidence immediately broke the ice and created a natural foundation for open conversation.

By their second meeting, what started as a formal mentorship discussion evolved into long conversations about career progression, life, and personal growth.

“For me, the opportunity to build a genuine professional relationship, one that has also developed into a meaningful friendship, has been the most rewarding aspect of the mentorship experience,” Gabrielle said.

One of Gabrielle’s original goals entering the program was learning how to appropriately approach conversations around career progression with management. Through guidance from her mentor, she began preparing a clear plan outlining her contributions, professional goals, and ideas for adding value within her firm. What she did not expect was how much the process would strengthen her confidence overall.

“In a word, confidence,” Gabrielle explained when reflecting on the program’s impact. “My confidence in the workplace has grown noticeably, particularly in how I approach my day to day responsibilities.”

Perhaps the most important lesson she learned was redefining what confidence actually looks like.

“I have learned that confidence does not need to be aggressive or overbearing. Rather, confidence can be demonstrated through quiet assurance, showing strength and knowledge while remaining humble.”

The mentorship also created opportunities beyond one on one conversations. One standout moment came when Gabrielle was invited to participate in a presentation alongside her mentor and members of the LaunchMe committee. The experience challenged her in new ways while reinforcing the support system she had built through the program.

Through LaunchMe, Gabrielle gained more than career advice. She gained a trusted sounding board, increased self assurance, and a new perspective on balancing ambition with authenticity.

Her experience reflects one of the core strengths of mentorship: the ability to create space for honest conversations that help professionals grow not only in skill, but in confidence and clarity as well.
