Empowering the Next Generation: Inclusivity and Innovation in Hedge Funds

On 26 November 2024, 100 Women in Finance in Singapore, organised an in-person panel discussion on empowering the next generation by fostering inclusivity and innovation. The event was sponsored by Point72 and successfully attracted over 40 professionals in the finance industry.

Opening remarks were given by Ms. Saumya Aggarwal, 100WF Singapore committee member and Senior Account Manager of Coinbase and Mr. Rob Edmiston, Head of Singapore & AeJ L/S Equities Executive of Point72. Subsequently, the engaging fireside chat featured Ms. Joy Yang, Head of Asian Economic and Strategy Research, Point72 and Ms. Min Fu, Head of MI-Data Research, Asia, Point72, moderated by Ms. Steph Lau, Private Markets & Hedge Fund Specialist, UBS Global Wealth Management and Ms. Shi Ying Pang, International Sector Analyst, MI-Data Research, Point 72, highlighting the opportunities and challenges for emerging talents in the hedge fund industry.

The speakers shared insights into their day-to-day roles, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how they navigate the dynamic world of hedge funds — from analysing markets to making strategic decisions. They emphasized the importance of staying resilient and being able to grow through failures. Intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning were identified as essential traits for finding fulfilment and excelling in the industry.

For those aspiring to join the hedge fund space, the speakers offered practical advice: seize new opportunities, navigate uncertainties with confidence, and focus on building a strong foundation of skills and knowledge. They also highlighted the value of humbleness in achieving long-term success.

Closing remarks were delivered by Ms. Wanwen Huang, 100WF Singapore committee member and Network Relationship Manager at Clearstream Banking S.A.
