New York, NY – March 5, 2018 – 100 Women in Finance (“100WF”) today announces Horizons National as the beneficiary of its U.S. philanthropic activities in 2018, including the 17th Annual Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street to be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, and other regional fundraisers.
100 Women in Finance is a global network of professionals in the finance and alternative investment industries working together to empower women at every stage of their careers. Through peer engagement, philanthropic, and educational initiatives, 100 Women in Finance’s more than 15,000 members are making connections and creating opportunities that help to advance their careers and improve the industry. To date, 100WF has raised more than $44 million (gross) for charitable causes.
Empowering women in finance also means supporting women and families across the world. 100 Women in Finance’s Galas and fundraising events benefit organizations dedicated to improving lives through mentoring, women’s and family health, and education. To ensure the greatest impact for local communities, 100WF’s global theme rotates on an annual basis and the theme for 2018 is Education.
Horizons National is a network of award-winning, tuition-free, academic and enrichment programs serving low-income, public school students on the campuses of independent schools, colleges, and universities across the country. Children join Horizons the summer before Kindergarten and return to the program each year through 12th grade, building lasting relationships with their teachers and peers, developing life skills essential for success, and on average achieving a 97% high school graduation rate.
Elaine Crocker, Vice Chair of the Board and Global Board Champion for Philanthropy, 100 Women in Finance and President, Moore Capital Management, said, “Opening doors for children to have access to education has always been a commitment of 100 Women in Finance. For children coming from families with limited educational experience, instilling a sense of discovery and wonder in the joy of learning opens a door to an entirely new world of experiences. Nationally, Horizons has demonstrated that providing inspiring teachers and mentors throughout the year makes a marked difference in children understanding their own resilience and capability to catapult from a world of limitations to a world of possibilities. We are excited Horizons National is our 2018 grant recipient and will work with them in supporting their efforts.”
“It is an incredible honor to be selected by 100 Women in Finance as their 2018 U.S. beneficiary,” said Lorna Smith, CEO, Horizons National. “Horizons students and families at our 55 sites across the country will all benefit from this strong vote of confidence, which comes at exactly the right time in our strategic plan for growth and impact. Horizons provides long-term academic and social support to children from low-income families – from the time they enter Kindergarten until they go to college. By inspiring our students to reach their potential as successful, contributing adults, Horizons’ long-term community of learning lifts children out of poverty. We look forward to collaborating with 100 Women in Finance for years to come.”
100 Women in Finance is planning a number of fundraising events to benefit Horizons National in locations across the U.S. this year. Firms and individuals interested in learning more about sponsorship opportunities, purchasing tables for the New York Gala on November 7, 2018, or making a donation, may visit our website and email the New York Gala Committee.
