In our Mentor and Mentee Features series, we highlight a mentor and mentee partnership from our LaunchMe program and learn why thy took part and what they gained from the process. This time we speak to Raina Uppal (Mentee) and Rachel Farrell (Mentor) from our LaunchMe 2026 cohort.
Raina Uppal (Mentee)
Graduate from the University of Toronto
I’m a recent graduate early in my career and have interned at Canada Pension Plan Investments and Legal & General across fixed income and portfolio design. I’m starting a Master’s in AI this August and hope to find innovative ways to integrate AI into the asset allocation process. I’m particularly interested in using AI to model climate uncertainty and predict how risks and opportunities in the climate space could unfold.
Why did you join LaunchMe?
I joined because I was seeking advice on networking, interview preparation, and more broadly about what kind of career path within asset management would be the best fit for me.
What has been your favourite part of the mentorship program?
My favourite part has been getting to know Rachel and meeting the lovely people she has put me in touch with. I’ve found the conversations thought-provoking and very helpful.
What’s one goal where you’ve seen the most impact and what have you learned from your mentor?
Rachel has helped me hugely with my confidence and fluency when networking, something I previously found daunting. I’ve learned from the way she approaches it that it’s about going in curious and asking for insights rather than opportunities. I’ve also learned the importance of reconnecting with people and maintaining relationships.

What drew you to mentor in LaunchMe and what’s been rewarding about the experience?
After 35 years in the industry, I would like share my expertise to help more women succeed in the asset management industry.
How has the relationship inspired or influenced you and what is one thing you’ve learned from your mentee.
Building a career is hard but with persistence and support in the right places, it can be very rewarding. We always have more to learn.
Any tips or encouragement for those entering the industry?
Don’t be afraid to take risks.
